Principal's Kōrero
Sunny West
We are so excited to announce the arrival of our newest staff members who are both supporting our Rūmaki Akomanga. Whaea Maree has started this term to support a tamariki with their transition to school programme and Whaea Maddisyn has started the induction phase of becoming our Kaiako for the tamariki in between Korimako and Kiwi. The students who will be in whaea's class will be notified by email so please ensure your email is the most up to date.
Come and say hi to our newest staff members.
As we approach the end of a busy term, many students are starting to feel a little more tired than usual. This is completely normal after weeks of learning, activities, and excitement! Families can really help by keeping home routines consistent, especially in the evenings. Regular bedtimes, a calm wind-down routine, and avoiding screens or technology before bed can make a big difference to the quality of sleep children get. Encouraging quiet activities before bedtime, ensuring children get enough rest, and maintaining normal morning routines can help students arrive at school refreshed and ready to learn during these final weeks of term. Thank you for your continued support in helping our students finish the term well.
Next term there may be some new building work going on as we attempt to repair some issues to do with aged buildings. This is predominantly in the Room 9 and 10 area. We are aiming to have this work done during the school holidays to minimise disruption, however things may change depending on what happens. There may also be a precaution for being able to access our school site during these times as well. This will be posted publically should it be an issue
Lock Down Drill
On Tuesday 24 March, we will be practising a lock down drill during our morning play break. We are specifically focusing on when the students are outside at play, what we need to do in the event of a lockdown.
This will help inform us what areas are needing to be improved and what we don't yet have in place that requires immediate attention in the event of a real lockdown.
The suggested scenario we are talking with the students about is a (pretend) swarm of bees has found their way to our school and we need to get inside as quickly as we can. The children have been instructed to enter the closest classroom space when they hear the bells ring off and on consistently for more than three times. Please talk to your tamariki about the importance of moving quickly during lockdowns and why it's best not to run unless the teachers say to do so.
Bus Bay Parking
Thank you for not parking in the bus bay before or after school. We have had a few complaints from the bus company about people who are parking in this area which causes an immediate hazard that should not be something they have to navigate.
It is important that our tamariki remain safe at all times particularly during drop off and pick up times. please use the other areas we have for parking - all of which border our school and are less than 100ms to walk.
