Kihikihi School - Learners today, Leaders tomorrow - He tangata ako, he whānau ako

Kicking Off at Kihikihi School

Be sure to pre-enrol your child at school.  Contact the office and make a time to come in and see the junior teacher to discuss the times your child can come in to experience Kihikihi School before he or she begins.  This is also helpful for us as we are then able to plan ahead in terms of numbers.  We suggest at least three visits in the classroom before your child begins with us.
The office will arrange for the junior class teacher to contact you regarding these visits. We recommend:
  • Initial visits for the first block from 9.00am - 11.00am.
  • A parent or whānau member is required to stay on site.  Initially this can be supporting in the classroom
  • On the second or third visits, the adult may decide to wait in the office area or staff room and have a cup of tea.  To encourage your child to get use to separation from you.  This is very much particular to each child.  No pressure whānau!

Rumaki Reo Enrolments

The information for the English Medium is similar for the Māori Medium enrolment of tamaiti.  The difference is that it is important to meet with the pouako or kaiarataki of the Rumaki Reo.  This is so we can ensure that whānau are aware of the special nature of learning in the Rumaki and how language acquisition can be quite challenging.  Our lead kaiako of the Rumaki is experienced in sharing the stages a tamaiti can go through in this learning.  This initial hui is important for also understanding from the whānau perspective special things you can share with us about your child.
Kia kaha whānau.  Tautokongia tēnei huarahi matua, kia whakarauoratia ai  tā tātou reo rangatira.
